Public Holiday Quick Tips
Working out holiday pay is difficult. The Employment NZ website has calculators and tools you can use. Check it out at
www.employment.govt.nz
There are plenty of online payroll programs to take care of processing the wages. They back up in real time, you can access them anywhere and at any time. Some even take care of the PAYE payments too. Flexitime and iPayroll are just two and both integrate with accounting software
Even if an employee has just been hired, they’re entitled to public holidays that fall on days they would usually work
Some holidays such as Christmas Day and Boxing Day are “Mondayised”. Employees who work on Christmas Day when it is not their usual working day are paid at ordinary rates and don’t receive a day in lieu. They ob serve their holiday on Tuesday 27th December this year.
